Reps pass Bill for the Establishment of Federal University of Education, Aguleri

The House of Representatives, Wednesday, again passed the Bill for the Establishment of Federal University of Education, Aguleri, Anambra State.
The bill which was passed in the Eight Assembly was denied assent by the presidency due to two sections -(4) and (10) of the bill.
Sponsored by Hon. Chinedu B. Obidigwe, member representing Anambra East and West Federal Constituency, the proposed amendment bill was considered and passed in the green chamber.
According to the Lawmaker, the bill aimed at providing for the qualification of the Chairman of the Governing Council and also making provision for protection of the intellectual property right of academics.
In his words: “Today’s bill was an amendment bill for the establishment of university of education, Aguleri. The presidency declined assent to the bill in the previous assembly due to two sections- sections 4 and 10 of the bill. To provide for governing council and the property rights of the institution. The bill was returned to the house and today, the house considered the amended sections and it was passed. We look forward to the President’s assent”.

On the importance of the bill to Anambra State, hon. Obidigwe stated that Anambra being the light of the nation usually have overflow of the number of students seeking admission every year and the quota by Nigeria University Commission (NUC) is not enough.
“Even when NUC give us the necessary quota, our institution cannot accommodate all the students seeking admission. So, establishing Federal University of education in Anambra State will give us more opportunities ranging from employment and admission for the children. It will also bring development to the area in which the university is being sited. The advantage of having the university is enormous”, he added.
He also mentioned that the needful was done as a result of a joint efforts and no single person can take the glory of it. “The most important point is that somebody must be at the focal point and at the very last lap of this bill, I was at the focal point”, he said.
